Dampier Resurrected, Installation view, 2025
Spirulina, salt, peat, bog water, river silt, acrylic medium, rubbing alcohol, hessian scrim, field recordings.
An installation of encrusted prints of ancient algae specimens from the Oxford Herbarium that I revived in the peat fens of the Lye Valley and hung up to dry once again. The space was filled by scent of decomposing plant matter, to create an encounter between the fen and the gallery. This audiovisual installation was accompanied by field recordings from a walk through the fen, logging the soaking process and changing density of the ground through sonic traces.
Cystophyllum muricatum, Cystoseira trinodis.
